Athletics Day

Athletics day
By Zach

We arrived at the sports park. Ready to run 500 miles and 500 more. The first event the year 5 boys had to do was the 200M sprint. The only people I knew in the race was Ben. ‘Ready, Set, go!’ Mr Cottrell yells. I headed full speed down the track. I looked beside me and there was Ben! We battled and Battled for 2nd to last, fortunately he ran on a rock so he slowed down and I got 2nd to last!

The next event was long jump. I love long jump. There was a massive line and I was near the middle. ‘My turn, yes!’ I take a really big run-up and jump! I got a 2 for that event.

Then the 50M hurdles was up next. I sucked at it. Well I didn’t knock over any hurdles but I was bad at it. Then It was Morning Tea/ Lunch time. I had my chips and sandvich. Then the next event was 100M sprint.

I got into the Semi-finals  but lost it so because I was facing all the fast kids but I came 5th. So I got a 2 for the event.

Next was Softball through. I only got one through because other people were taking the balls but I threw the ball and got 2 points for the event.

The final event was the High jump. I got over the bar the first time but Mr Ford said that I should go over to the other matt. I didn’t get a mark for the event.

I score over all was 9 so I did good but not great. But I tried my best.

Reflection for Athletics
Something I was pleased with was how far I got in long jump because I not that great at jumping but I am now!

I really enjoyed learning how to do high jump because it is actually quite fun.

Something I found hard was the 800M run because I thought I wouldn’t lose my breath but I did.
Something that made me think was how I would jump on the long jump because I would have to think which tactic is the best.
Something I want to get better at is jumping higher on the high jump.

ALMOST THERE!

Science: Balloon Rocket

Balloon Experiment

In room 15, we have done a balloon experiment for our science rotation. We visit every class for a different experiment.

Equipment:
  • 3 balloons
  • String
  • Straw
  • 2 chairs
  • Tape

Prediction:
I think when I blow the balloon and let go of it, it’s going to fly down the other end of the string hitting the chair.

Observe:
When I blew the balloon. Marcus taped it to the straw and I let go of the balloon and the balloon went flying down the string and hit the chair.

Explanation:
When you blow the balloon up, all the air inside the balloon wants to go out. So when I let it go, all the air bursts out of the balloon causing it to move along the string to the other end.
(Balloon) I believe I can fly!

Wereigator

Werewolf Alligator
This is probably the most terrifying monster you have ever heard of or seen. This monster is part Werewolf and part Alligator, say hello to the Wereigator.

Description
This creature is 2 m and 53 cm tall. It lives in the swamps where it can camouflage in the reeds. The Wereigator has an Alligator head. It has 1 werewolf arm and 1 alligator arm. It also has 2 legs, one is an Alligator and the other is werewolf leg. The tail has scaly skin and fur growing out of it. Its eyes are red and it’s teeth are about 10 cm tall  and approximately 5 cm wide. The Wereigator combines the strength and running of a Werewolf and fast swimming and huge bites of a Alligator. This creature is very rare and there are approximately 37 of them in the world.

Why it Is so terrifying?
This creature is terrifying because can camouflage itself as a log or it could play dead. Imagine a packgregation of Wereigators surrounding your home, dribbling, and getting closer and closer to you to bite your face off!

Now you know what he looks like and can be alert when he appears, and if you're off guard, there is a good chance of you dying.

Glossary
Packgregation: A pack of werewolves and a congregation of Alligators.
Wereigator: An Alligator and a werewolf hybrid.

Science: Race a Speedboat

Water tension Experiment
Equipment:
  • Coloured card
  • Washing up liquid
  • Pencil or sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Large container of water.

Prediction:
I think the boat will stay in-tact because the dishwasher liquid might be like a boost so it reaches the other end and then the boat might sink at the end.

Observe:
When I placed my boat into the water and placed my finger in there with the liquid, it glided.

Explanation:
I think it happened because paper is really light.

Metal clip Experiment
Equipment
  • Large container of water.
  • Metal paperclip.

Prediction:
Because it is made out of metal, it will sink.

Observe:
After a few tries, the metal clip finally floated.

Explanation:

It floated because if you gently place it down, the water’s surface won’t break causing the metal clip to float.

Mathletics

My AWESOME art.
This is my Mathletics art. We are doing this for a competition and everything has to be symmetrical and straight. I got this design by messing around with circles, checkers and lines. I hope you enjoy!

Reflection for Mathletics

Something I was pleased with was my finished result because I think it looks pretty good but I think it won’t win.
I really enjoyed learning how to use a compass properly because I haven't learnt how to draw circles and then Sam showed me how to use it.

Something I found hard was keeping everything symmetrical because if you didn’t keep lines straight, you would get a lot less marks for you Mathletics poster.

Something that made me think was what design I should do because I couldn't think of a GOOD one.

Science: Does air have weight?

Experiment

Equipment:
  • Ruler
  • News paper

Prediction:
*CHOP*
No, I don’t think it has weight because if it had weight, the wind would push us around and about all over the place.

Observe:
When Ollie tried to chop it the first time without anything on top of it, It didn’t work. But when Mr.M grabbed the newspaper and flattened on top, Ollie then chopped it once more and it broke.

Explanation:
When Ollie did it with the paper flat on the ruler his ruler snapped but the paper just ripped but when the others did it, it didn't work Then Mr.M tried, he snapped the ruler.

My calendar art

I'm not really getting hungry.
This is my calender art. I had a choice between my dot art or my skeletons. This is the one I'm picking to be my calender because it kinda looks like me.
Do I have a thick skull?

These are my skeletons the left one is me and the right one is my dad. I like this art but I don't like it enough for it to be my calender.

The Story of Assassin Zach #4

The story of Assassin Zach

Last time: Elijah man got KIA while fighting Assassin Zach.

Now: ‘What have you done!’ said Master Tyrone. ‘Umm’ I replied. I’m not impressed with...’ Ahhh! I yelled. Elijah man Stuck his sword right through his back. What I don’t understand how are you still alive Elijah?’My logics I pushed them to the side for a second, if a man gets stabbed 87 times he can just get back up. 47 years later... ‘Captain Dylan, Get over here!’ I yelled ‘I need help destroying these Claw units. ‘I’m calling down thunder, stay back’ said Dylan. BOOM! ‘We have a man down!’ said someone. Move in! ‘Ambush’ said Dylan. They have a camo suit I noticed and I stabbed someone and stripped them from there suit and put it on me. ‘Dylan, get this door open!’ I walk in the room and and it’s, MCDONALDS! I see dylan ordering already and he wants fries without salt, he comes 5 minutes later and says where are the salt sashes? Then he orders an ice cream and he tastes it and says ‘ it’s cold’. Then he wants a burger. The cash register person says which one? He says ‘Yes that's the one’. Suddenly ‘TANK INCOMING!’ Dylan says.

Taj Mahal report

The Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is just stunning. It is located in Agra, India. it’s made out of white marble and when the sun shines on it the marble changes color. it’s 81 meters high and it’s symmetry is just about perfect! Also, it’s a tomb not a religious church. The towers are on a 92 degree angle pointing towards the river because if an earthquake happens, they won't fall on top of the almighty, Taj Mahal. This building started to get built in the 17th century and 20,000 people helped build it and it took a massive 22 years!
