Science: Balloon Rocket

Balloon Experiment

In room 15, we have done a balloon experiment for our science rotation. We visit every class for a different experiment.

Equipment:
  • 3 balloons
  • String
  • Straw
  • 2 chairs
  • Tape

Prediction:
I think when I blow the balloon and let go of it, it’s going to fly down the other end of the string hitting the chair.

Observe:
When I blew the balloon. Marcus taped it to the straw and I let go of the balloon and the balloon went flying down the string and hit the chair.

Explanation:
When you blow the balloon up, all the air inside the balloon wants to go out. So when I let it go, all the air bursts out of the balloon causing it to move along the string to the other end.
(Balloon) I believe I can fly!

Wereigator

Werewolf Alligator
This is probably the most terrifying monster you have ever heard of or seen. This monster is part Werewolf and part Alligator, say hello to the Wereigator.

Description
This creature is 2 m and 53 cm tall. It lives in the swamps where it can camouflage in the reeds. The Wereigator has an Alligator head. It has 1 werewolf arm and 1 alligator arm. It also has 2 legs, one is an Alligator and the other is werewolf leg. The tail has scaly skin and fur growing out of it. Its eyes are red and it’s teeth are about 10 cm tall  and approximately 5 cm wide. The Wereigator combines the strength and running of a Werewolf and fast swimming and huge bites of a Alligator. This creature is very rare and there are approximately 37 of them in the world.

Why it Is so terrifying?
This creature is terrifying because can camouflage itself as a log or it could play dead. Imagine a packgregation of Wereigators surrounding your home, dribbling, and getting closer and closer to you to bite your face off!

Now you know what he looks like and can be alert when he appears, and if you're off guard, there is a good chance of you dying.

Glossary
Packgregation: A pack of werewolves and a congregation of Alligators.
Wereigator: An Alligator and a werewolf hybrid.

Science: Race a Speedboat

Water tension Experiment
Equipment:
  • Coloured card
  • Washing up liquid
  • Pencil or sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Large container of water.

Prediction:
I think the boat will stay in-tact because the dishwasher liquid might be like a boost so it reaches the other end and then the boat might sink at the end.

Observe:
When I placed my boat into the water and placed my finger in there with the liquid, it glided.

Explanation:
I think it happened because paper is really light.

Metal clip Experiment
Equipment
  • Large container of water.
  • Metal paperclip.

Prediction:
Because it is made out of metal, it will sink.

Observe:
After a few tries, the metal clip finally floated.

Explanation:

It floated because if you gently place it down, the water’s surface won’t break causing the metal clip to float.

Mathletics

My AWESOME art.
This is my Mathletics art. We are doing this for a competition and everything has to be symmetrical and straight. I got this design by messing around with circles, checkers and lines. I hope you enjoy!

Reflection for Mathletics

Something I was pleased with was my finished result because I think it looks pretty good but I think it won’t win.
I really enjoyed learning how to use a compass properly because I haven't learnt how to draw circles and then Sam showed me how to use it.

Something I found hard was keeping everything symmetrical because if you didn’t keep lines straight, you would get a lot less marks for you Mathletics poster.

Something that made me think was what design I should do because I couldn't think of a GOOD one.

Science: Does air have weight?

Experiment

Equipment:
  • Ruler
  • News paper

Prediction:
*CHOP*
No, I don’t think it has weight because if it had weight, the wind would push us around and about all over the place.

Observe:
When Ollie tried to chop it the first time without anything on top of it, It didn’t work. But when Mr.M grabbed the newspaper and flattened on top, Ollie then chopped it once more and it broke.

Explanation:
When Ollie did it with the paper flat on the ruler his ruler snapped but the paper just ripped but when the others did it, it didn't work Then Mr.M tried, he snapped the ruler.
